"26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
- James 1:26-27
I like these few verses.. I think that so often we do not realize the true power of our tongue! It can hurt and cut deep in just a few syllables.. we can encourage with a few letters arranged into a few friendly words.. or we can make someone we truly care about cry in a matter of seconds... In God's word he shows us that we can do everything perfect and yet if we have a loose tongue and are not careful of what we say.. all that we have done is voided.. our religion is worthless the scripture says! Worthless I think has such a heavy and specific meaning.. I mean when I think of being worthless.. it is so degrading and depressing.. to know that you are nothing.. don't count.. lack worth... However I know that our tongue not only has the potential of being bad.. but it has an even greater potential of being a wonderful and magnificent tool! In more ways than one.. ;) God calls us to control our tongue and be able to use this tool most efficiently! I am just as guilty as the next person, but think before you talk and use your tongue wisely...
That was really my point in writing these couple verses in here.. but I had to put in the second verse as well because I find it extremely interesting how "true religion" is defined... so give it a thought.. and see how you feel about it! :)
